The Clinical Establishments Act governs the registration and regulation of clinical establishments. Minimum criteria for unique types of facilities and services provided by clinical establishments across the country with the goal of prescribing essential care.
All hospitals, maternity homes, nursing homes, dispensaries, clinics, sanatoriums, and other institutions that provide services, facilities, or diagnose, treat, or care for illness, injury, deformity, abnormality, or pregnancy under any recognised system of medicine must register under the Clinical Establishment Act. The registration also applies to any laboratory or diagnostic centre, as well as any other location where pathological, bacteriological, genetic, radiological, chemical, biological, or other services are performed using laboratory or other medical equipment.
