A corporate challenge to Run Down Under

Corporate Challenge specialises in outdoor, fun, interactive team building and experiential learning programs designed to promote team spirit and a winning, participative culture.

There is a growing trend for businesses in Australia and New Zealand to engage their workforce in fun and active recreational events. They are not only great for team building but also promote a healthy and active lifestyle.

Founder and Director of Corporate Challenge Events, Travis Ireland, said an active and healthy workforce will contribute to the overall results of the company.

“A healthy and active staff will deliver greater productivity, less sick leave, higher energy levels and more positive moods around the work environment,” said Ireland.

Ireland has overseen his company become a leader in delivering team building events over 21 years and, more recently, has created a virtual fitness-oriented event for corporate teams that encourages an active workforce.

The event is called Run Down Under, a virtual fun run around Australia, which Ireland says “enables people to participate when they want, where they want and how they want”.

There is a corporate teams challenge as part of Run Down Under, which provides a simple yet unique fitness challenge for businesses all over Australia and New Zealand.

Ireland said the objective for participants in Run Down Under is to run or walk as far as they can in a calendar year and ultimately continue their progress to complete a 14,080km virtual course around Australia.

“Corporate teams can stage their own internal challenges to see who travels the farthest out of their own staff, and they will also battle other corporate teams to see which company accumulates the most kilometres in the year.

“There are some great prizes on offer through the year, and it’s also an opportunity for corporate teams to fundraise as we provide financial incentives based on team size.”

Ireland said, whilst the traditional running event comes and goes on the one day, Run Down Under provides a challenge for a whole year and longer.

“It’s a great way for people to stay committed to their fitness goals for a full 12 months.

“Many of us set goals around health and fitness as our New Year’s resolutions, and Run Down Under provides a platform to motivate people and keep them committed to their goals.

“And it’s a great way to virtually explore Australia and learn about this great country as participants pass through more than 60 different towns and cities on their way to the finish line.”

Run Down Under is now underway for 2016 with corporate teams able to sign up to commence their virtual journey around Australia.

Once a team has 20 registered participants, they become eligible for the prizes and rewards of the corporate teams challenge.

Then participants just need to record the distance of each run or walk they undertake, either by GPS watch, smart phone, treadmill screen, other race results or Strava – and submit this on the Run Down Under website.

Each participant can then track their journey around Australia on a virtual map and also their ranking against all other members on a live scoreboard.

Entries are open for the 2016 edition of Run Down Under
