Nearly 50% of deaths of children under the age of 5 are due to the reason of malnutrition or undernutrition which puts the life of such children at huge risk. Such children are exposed to infectious diseases due to their weak immune systems and lack of necessary nutrients in their bodies. A malnourished child is very much prone to catching basic infections instantly which can lead to the spreading of the disease thereby causing a delay in the recovery. When a child is in the womb, it is very crucial to feed him for at least 1000 days till his second birthday which is particularly a power window to prevent malnutrition in the child, if neglected could lead to stunted growth and poor cognitive ability. A child suffering from malnutrition hinders the growth and development of a child’s mental ability and negatively affects their health.
A well-nourished child has the power to combat any basic illness and is resilient in participating in their communities. UNICEF has been constantly supporting and performing immense activities to reduce the percentage of Odema malnutrition in children and also providing guidance & training to mothers during their pregnancy, at times of breastfeeding, and protein-rich supplement food.
