Rembert, South Carolina (October 21, 2012) - Modern Turf, Inc., the preeminent, South Carolina-based turfgrass production company, announced it has completed installation of its MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass turf at the 18-hole golf course at Benton Golf and Country Club in Benton, Kentucky.

Replacement of the existing bent grass greens was part of a larger renovation of the 6,450-yard, 72-par, semi-private course designed by golf architect Alex McKay. It is among the first courses in Kentucky to convert from traditional bent grass greens to Bermudagrass.

Hank Kerfoot, President of Modern Turf, Inc., said, “The course opened in 1992, which is not particularly old in terms of golf courses, but the club’s management was enthusiastic about bringing its greens up to date. They were particularly interested in the environmental benefits of the ultradwarf Bermudagrass. The turf is designed to withstand every type of extreme element, yet requires less in the way of chemicals, pesticides or fungicides. It was the perfect choice for them.”

The MiniVerde Ultradwarf Bermudagrass produces deep roots and is characterized by fine leaf blades, short internodes and high shoot density. MiniVerde has been the top-rated Bermudagrass in the National Turfgrass Evaluation Program (NTEP) trials for the past several years.

In a letter to its members, Benton Golf and Country Club management said, the Club is a “proud parent of 18 greens, a practice green and nursery green covered with new MiniVerde Bermuda grass. The delivery took two days using 3850 bushels of sprigs and 211 tons of sand. Course Superintendent David English and his crew covered the greens with ¾ inches of sand, keeping the young sprigs moist with the aid of a seven cycle sprinkler regiment.”
