Electrical Engineering Technician Program Makes Impact Through Practical Approach

Posted December 18, 2013 by centennialcollege

The Electrical Engineering Technician program at Centennial College offering uses modern labs and lecture facilities at the Progress Campus to prepare students to receive their Ontario College Diploma.

According to Service Canada, "given the anticipated growth in the demand for computer and electronics products, the number of electrical and electronic engineering technologists and technicians should increase sharply over the next few years." Additionally, a technical skills shortage is looming in Canada as the manufacturing sector becomes more specialized, the construction industry flourishes, and retirement rates increase. Centennial College is responding to the anticipated growth and demand with its Electrical Engineering Technician program, which prepares students for work in various electrical environments including those relating to power distribution and utilization; electrical power generation; transmission and protection; industrial telecommunications; electrical maintenance and installation; and control systems.

Welcoming anyone with at minimum an Ontario high school diploma (or equivalent), the offering is built on providing students with a solid foundation in electrical and electronic theory and practices. Training out of School of Engineering Technology and Science labs at Progress Campus, which is Centennial College's largest location, students attend a range of electrical engineering courses in Canada that cover electrical functions such as installations, testing, maintaining, repairing, analyzing and troubleshooting specific kinds of electrical circuits, equipment, and systems. They also have the opportunity to apply knowledge in all of these areas with the guidance of highly qualified instructors. Assignment mimic real-world scenarios to ensure students are fully prepared once they complete their studies and receive their Ontario College Diploma. The labs at Centennial College are equipped for students to learn testing and troubleshooting electrical power systems.
