Victoria, BC Today marks the groundbreaking start to fill a much needed independent senior housing shortage for residents of Colwood and surrounding municipalities. The first phase of Westshore Lodge had an unofficial ceremony with Mayor Hamilton and Trillium communities CEO Omar Lalani among others in attendance. An enthusiastic Mayor Hamilton is quoted as saying it is long overdue to offer much needed independent seniors residence options in the GVRD. She applauded the construction noting that independent senior housing has been lagging behind other housing for decades.

The first phase will consist of 62 units and Trillium Communities CEO says the development will have a distinct village feeling as the name suggests. Located at 333 Wale Road the project is scheduled to be completed and ready for residents in the Fall of 2018. Westshore Village will be built near the existing Westshore Lodge and offer residents proposed amenities that include a cafe, restaurant, a library, theater and gym. “ Our project will bring best-in-class amenities to residents of Colwood and the surrounding communities. “ Omar Lalani commented further.

Lalani’s vision is to provide independent seniors housing and believes empowering residents to live their lives in wellness and vitality. They support the continued good health of residents with nutritious meals and encouraging them to maintain and active and fulfilling social life. This could mean visiting family and friends or joining others at the Westshore facility in planned activities.

With a large segment of Canada’s population ageing Trillium communities can look forward to providing independent senior housing for decades to come. Trillium was founded in 2003 and currently operates homes across the South Island as well as Abbotsford.
