2nd nov 2015, United States (http://www.mtpabortionpill.com/) : When the abortion pill bus arrived at Limerick city center, it was met with mixed reactions from the locals. As pro-choice folks were present to greet the dignitaries, so were pro-life members prepared for a protest. The initiative taken by the Women on Web combined with Reproductive rights, against Oppression, Sexism & Austerity (ROSA) was to provide information about medical pregnancy termination to women in areas where services for the same is restrictive.

Women could seek direct consultations with doctor to know about the procedure, who could later get prescribed tablets for use. This way, females can use the recommendation to get abortion pill online or the same medication from a hospital or clinic. The bus toured four cities of the Ireland, and put up a mobile clinic for females who required talking with doctors from Women on Web organization. The ROSA and Socialist Party TD Ruth Coppinger were also in the vehicle.

Aprille Scully a pro-choice activist along with one of the organizers from Limerick rally said that the effort was to highlight the necessity to repeal the 8th Amendment. The event was to publicize that use of such tablets was safe, cheap, and that non-invasive pregnancy termination should not be denied to women. People should have the right to buy abortion pill online as easily as getting the tablets from clinics, which could be rather far off and requiring more limitations than purchase on the internet.

However, the PRO of Limerick Pro Life campaign, Jim Hickey posed questions on the legality of offering the medications given the current legislation monitoring pregnancy endings in Ireland. He believes that majority of people do not support pregnancy termination and will vote against such means. Mr Hickey also noted that Dr Ruth Cullen from the Pro Life campaign had opined that those supporting the Women on Web initiative are not credible enough to talk about women’s health.

The Life Institute accused that the organizers behind the bus tour were not careful about women’s lives, and were playing a fast and cheap publicity stunt. But, the supporters were for the campaigners, saying that abortion pill cost is relatively cheaper to the whole surgical process, even if it did not or did concern pregnancy termination on the grounds of sexual violence or risk to female’s life. Cullen observed that the 8th amendment act was another thing, but getting out a bus promoting the use of tablets was simply dangerous and irresponsible.

As the pregnancy ending laws in Ireland is very stringent, a lot many females travel far away to get the services. This incurs a lot of expenditure, and can raise risk to health for the travelers in case any complications take place. But, as the regulations are stoic, women find it hard to terminate the pregnancy in first trimester or go on with an unwilling full-term pregnancy. In reality a lot many lives could be saved if females were allowed to buy abortion pill online safely than going for illegal termination, endangering health.

Cullen said while the organizers were glorifying the benefits of pregnancy ending tablets, they forgot to mention the stories which reflected the sorrow state of those for whom the process was blotched up. For some women, the complications were so tough that it was difficult to get the same treated permanently. Especially those who took abortion pill online without doctor’s recommendation and went for in-home procedure were posed at greater risk. However, this belief was shrugged down by pro-choice people saying that those few serious consequences occurred very rarely.
