Munnar is said to be the most popular tourist destination of Kerala. Being a tourist destination itself, Munnar is the ideal hill station for the tourists from India and from other countries.

This hill station falls in Idukki district of the state of Kerala. This is also ideal for honeymooners. That’s why it is said to be the Kashmir of Kerala due to its cold weather and picturesque mountain views. Malayalam and Telugu are widely spoken languages in Kerala apart from Hindi and English in some places. By 1920s, it was the summer resort for British. Let’s have a look to some places of interest in Munnar.

Munnar tourist places
1. Eravikulam National Park: This is one of the most sightseeing spots of Kerala. This spread 97 square kilometers being one of the rarest places to see Nilgiri Tahr (mountain goats). In the southern part of this park, the Top Station is located at Anamudi Peak which is about 2695 meter above the sea level. This was declared as a national park by 1978 because of its ecological and natural importance. The area of national park is fully covered by grass lands and evergreen forests. There are three types of areas of Eravikulam Sanctuary – buffer, core and tourist. The tourists are allowed only to visit tourist zone which is also called as Rajamala. This is one of the famous mountain areas for adventure.
2. Mattupetty Dam: This dam is the sample of beautiful architecture of man-made marvels. This is constructed over 1700 meter above the sea level. The main attraction is Indo-Swiss Livestock Project which is a home to high yielding castles of above 100 types. The Kundala Lake attracts tourists being the most amazing picnic spot of Munnar. Speed boats and low speed boats are also available to hire to enjoy the lake ride.
3. Rajamalai: This is a home to more than 1300 Nilgiri Tahr (mountain goats). This is one of the rarest animal species that are the amazing tourist attractions.
4. Echo point: It is located on the way of Top Station. Being the home to a lot of scenic views, it is considered also for the natural echo phenomenon.
5. Maryoor: This is located 40 km away from Munnar. This is the only place where you can see sandal wood tree which is naturally suited for this too. This place is under forest conservation.

Trekking places of Munnar
6. Meesapulimalai: It is the second highest trekking place of India. This is located 25 kilometer drive from Munnar so you can hire Jeep and a tour guide to visit there.
7. Kolukkumalai: This is the highest tea growing estate of the world. In this trekking place, you would get a wonderful experience of jeep drive through tea plantations.
8. Chinnar wildlife sanctuary: Here you can see the real forest life of birds, animals and real nature. This is located in Kerala Tamilnadu border which gives the great tourist attraction to Kerala.
