Instead of doing the cross-legged position like lotus on the floor, the practitioners cocoon inside the hammocks a few feet above from the floor. The hammock is made with flexible fabric to support the weight of a practitioner.

Who invented Anti-gravity yoga?
Anti-gravity yoga was invented by Christopher Calvin Harrison, a 50-year old former gymnastic coach and a professional dancer in Broadway Productions. As a choreographer, he choreographed the dancers for performance in the closing of Winter Olympics 2002 in Salt Lake City and in the inauguration of President Barack Obama. He also directed the choreography in performances of La Traviata, Salome, Turandot and various other opera dancing shows at Metropolitan Opera House in New York City. He also danced in various shows like Footloose, Cats, A Chorus Line and so on.

As a fitness instructor, he also designed Anti-gravity Yoga with an aim of giving the personal training to the students at high-end fitness clubs in New York City, Vancouver and various other places of US. The term “anti-gravity” reflects the philosophy of flying beyond the limitations of gravity. As an anti-gravity yoga creator, he believes traditional yoga and anti-gravity yoga has a little difference which is that anti-gravity has more fun especially when you get to fly. This is beneficial for spinal decompression which helps you to recover from long lasting back-pain. In addition, he believes anti-gravity yoga also helps in becoming flexible easier than any other traditional forms of exercises.
