He obtained his graduate divinity degree “with high distinction” from Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts in 1987. After his graduation, he pursued post-graduation doctorate work in the area of metaphysics at Chicago's Loyola University.
[b]About Bishop Demetrios[/b]
Bishop Demetrios was born to a first-generation Greek American family, Merope and the late Christ J. Kantzavelos. He attended Hellenic College and Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology in Brookline, Massachusetts, and attained a degree in divinity. After his graduation, he went for his post-graduation in the area of metaphysics, in the philosophy program at Chicago's Loyola University. In 1992, Demetrios ordained to the priesthood, and in 1995, was elevated to the rank of Archimandrite by Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago. He was consecrated as the Bishop of Mokissos on December 9, 2006. Demetrios co-founded a local initiative to strengthen Turkish and Greek relations. He also established the Bishop's Task Force on AIDS, the first formal Orthodox Christian response to this epidemic in the western dimension. He has also led many Hellenic organizations and cultural events.
