Ear piercings for migraines (Daith Piercing)

The migraine disorder is characterized by recurrent instances of severe headaches. It feels like pounding or pulsating.

It usually occurs on one side. You may encounter visual or sensory symptoms, collectively called "aura." You have probably exhausted every possible solution available to you, including medication, changes in your diet, and aromatherapy. A migraine prone person cannot cure themselves permanently.

Perhaps you might even consider trying a daith piercing if you're frustrated - a procedure that claims to get rid of migraines forever. The question is, does it work?

Is an ear piercing able to treat migraines?
Migraines are linked to piercings due to the ancient Chinese medicine approach of acupuncture, which uses needles to treat specific points on the body. Acupuncture, which uses pressure points on the ear, is one of the most popular alternative medicine treatments for headaches and migraines.

In the period from mid-2010 to the present day, increasing numbers of people got daith piercings in order to relieve migraines. Daith piercing has been advocated as a migraine treatment by some because it activates pressure points.
Daith piercing: what is it?
Daith piercings take place through the very smallest fold of cartilage in your ear, just above the ear canal on the outer edge of the ridge that runs along the top of your ear. Usually, once it's pierced, people don't change the jewelry very often because it's a small, curved piece of cartilage. An unpierced ear can take months to heal, and it's easy to get infected if not treated properly.

However, people with migraines who have daith piercings report that they experience less pain during attacks, resulting in others making the piercings their sole focus in order to relieve headaches. There are, however, many people who think the reported results could have placebo effects.

One or both ears can be pierced with a daith. According to some advocates of daith piercing, the ear should be pierced because it's on the side where migraine pain has a tendency to occur. You should have your left ear pierced if you suffer from migraines on the left side more often. When you are suffering from migraines related to anxiety, certain experts suggest getting a piercing on your anxious side.

Can daith piercing relieve pain scientifically?
It's not. People with migraines say they have experienced relief after getting a daith piercing, but the only evidence that supports this is purely anecdotal, and there is no research that confirms this. Daith piercing is done near the point where the vagus nerve crosses it. A migraine may be relieved by pressure on the nerves caused by the piercing. This notion has not yet been supported by medical reviews or studies.

A qualified medical practitioner should be consulted whenever you suffer from a migraine. Your doctor will be able to tailor your treatment to your particular case because migraines can have many causes.
