The transportation sector of India is one of the most progressive and highly accessible modes of industry, daily supporting interaction of around more than a million of the population, connecting people across towns, cities, and districts.

In the present context where we see population growth, as it adds to the growth in the use of more vehicles and movements across the cities. Similarly, the fuel consumption and with the increasing and sky-rocketing prices of fuel and petroleum products the people are continuously facing a burden.

So, to ease this burden associated to fuel appropriate solutions are being sought after, where solar energy powered vehicles are being sought after as a means against regular petrol diesel vehicles. A major hurdle comes in the stage is in the case of the price of solar-powered vehicles and the power back-up or support which is still in the distant vicinity. Thus, the solar power plants in Kolkata must seek this as an opportunity to help in setting up small facilities to charge electric vehicles. Another important reason for which solar energy has gained attraction and importance is because of the increasing reputation and scale of use that has been taken up by many industries.

When it comes to the case of buses, trains, and the rapid transit railways in cities, where solar power is being considered and used with due importance and also it has been made into a reality. In the city of Kolkata, electric buses are now being quite prevalent and sought upon. Even the companies working for making solar-powered technology from a dream to a reality. Bus depots in Kolkata are now getting equipped with solar panels which will help them to charge the electric buses. So in this similar way charging stations must also be created besides every petrol pumps to charge electric vehicles.

In the case of transportation in India where solar panels are getting a preference and an edge these days is due to the urgency and all aspects of advantages linked to it. Similarly in India, the Indian Railways has also made a revolution in this aspect by launching the use of solar panels in its trains and all the railway properties throughout India. Also looking in terms of the findings, we can make it out that India has one of the lowest vehicle penetration rates compared to any other major economies of the world which makes an opportunity to establish a sustained electric transportation system.

Electric vehicles are gaining a strong ground of ownership and traction throughout Indian cities, where its sole benefits that count in this aspect are reduction of air pollution, reduction in oil import costs, and growth of demand in the power sector of India. Introducing solar-powered vehicles can be a strong ground and source of employment generation in the future as well, where a potential for 13.8 million jobs may come up by 2030, according to an estimate by Clean Technica.

The Government of India’s NITI Aayog has always pitched for developing a strong policy since 2018 to develop Solar Power systems in India. As the Government of India is working towards amending the Electricity Act under the National Electricity Policy, where the transportation sector is having the right opportunity to move on a new path. So, there are some of the important factors that usually come up when the factor of unlocking an opportunity comes in terms of introducing Solar Powered Electric Vehicles.

• Ensuring an easy charging facility for the electric vehicles to procure a strong policy for renewable energy. As in the present times, where electric vehicles are just a fresh introduction to the automobile and transport market of India, naturally, the cost of maintenance is also a bit higher. So, a strong threshold of power demand is still a major demand and the Charging stations for Electric Vehicles are also less in numbers. So, in this case, the number of charging stations has to be increased.

• Encouraging inter-state trading and transmission of renewable energy for powering of the Electronic Vehicles- the Ministry of Power, Government of India has planned for selling electricity to all those entities that are dealing with renewable purchase obligations. The solar power plant manufacturers in Kolkata are looking forward to decarbonizing the transportation sector as its plan.

So, as a whole the transportation sector is having a good opportunity and future ahead, solar power can be a game-changer for our nation if all the solar power companies take this opportunity as a plan.
