SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 047.24 to provide stakeholders with an overview of China’s new standard covering footwear for older people.

The State Administration for Market Regulation and the Standardization Administration of the People's Republic of China (PRC) issued product standard GB/T 43587-2023 on December 28, 2023. This is a completely new standard, and it applies to boots intended for general use by older people.

SGS experts publish SafeGuardS to keep stakeholders informed about regulatory and market changes that may impact their business. SafeGuardS 047.24 provides a useful summary of the main technical requirements in GB/T 43587-2023. These include requirements relating to, inter alia, labeling, appearance quality, effective heal height, peeling strength, flexing resistance, adhesion strength, outsole hardness and insulation.

The new standard will come into effect on July 1, 2024.
