SGS, the world’s leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 058.24 to keep stakeholders up to date with Brazil’s revisions to its technical regulation for food contact metals and allows.

Resolution of the Collegiate Board of Directors RDC No. 854 of April 4, 2024 (RDC No. 854/2024) was issued on April 9, 2024. This revises the technical regulation governing provisions for packaging, coatings, utensils, lids and metal equipment that come into contact with food.

The latest changes incorporate Mercosur/GMC/RES. No. 48/2023 into Brazil’s domestic law and includes a new set of requirements for heavy metals in impurities in metallic materials and a modified list of stainless steels with specifications.

The new resolution enters into force on May 2, 2024, and will become applicable from October 29, 2024. It will repeal RDC 20/2007 and 498/2021.
