Home healthcare is the domiciliary care for in-home patients provided by professionals that work in the healthcare industry.

Home healthcare is the domiciliary care for in-home patients provided by professionals that work in the healthcare industry. Informally, friends and family members too can volunteer to provide care to a patient at their home. The difference being that when a licensed professional undertakes the formal medical care giving task, it is referred to as health care, but when a non-licensed person undertakes the same task, it is referred to as custodial or non-medical care.

General classifications of home health care include injury care, wound dressing, medication assistance, speech therapy, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and even emergency management. Services also may include meal preparation, general housekeeping, shopping, transportation & companionship. These services are classified as Activities of Daily living (ADL). Another type of service called Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL), refers to activities like light housekeeping, telephone operating, money management, shopping, medication help, and meal preparation.

There is a certification available, called "Certified Nursing Assistance", for professionals in the home healthcare field. Health care associations of every state have the authority to provide the certification to the worker after he/she completes any related course. Again the rules and regulations vary from state to state, and from country to country.

Home healthcare providers may bill at an hourly or daily basis. Additional fees can comprise of reimbursement for transportation, urgent medical or any other large expenses incurred by the care giver upon bill submission.

In the case of informal home healthcare, many of the friends and relatives that offer to volunteer to take care of a patient are usually not professionally qualified in the care giving process. In such a case, you can reach out to online assistance. The online healthcare provider will teach you about primary treatment, medication help, emergency management etc. However, the fees for these online healthcare services are usually more than for those of the formal, in-person kind.

Last but not least comes the insurance. It is very important to get at least some monetary reimbursement from the insurance provider. There are various insurance policies available for Home Healthcare. Coverage may be partly or completely covered depending on the policy's terms and conditions. There are also short term and long term insurance policies available. Private companies mainly cover the medical expenses partly. Other services often pay in excess upon submission of the original bills and receipts and all other proofs of your expenses related to Home Healthcare.

Insurance companies may come to your home for an inspection to make sure of the transparency at both ends and so that they can reimburse you accordingly. In case of the more beneficiary policies, more discounts are available for elderly people who are under Home Healthcare for a long time. It is better to do a comparative analysis of all the insurance policies in the market and choose one affordable long term beneficiary insurance plan. Again the terms and condition vary widely in different countries.
