The story of a broken-down World Series pitcher and a Latino boy with a golden arm and the dream of playing baseball took Bates by surprise: "This book really made me feel something...I wanted to get a screenplay written as soon as possible."

Ed Bates, producer of such movies as KINGDOM COME and THE LAST TIME I COMMITTED SUICIDE, and the television mini-series FALLEN, is excited by the project. Bates said, "It’s the ROCKY of baseball movies."
