The only beachfront Inn between Monterey and Pismo Beach is now also the only beachfront motel to go solar.

Cayucos, CA, March 20, 2014 -- The Shoreline Inn, a Cayucos beachfront motel is starting the New Year with a remodel that includes a Solarponics solar electric system, among other upgrades. With energy usage ranking among the top fixed costs for the Shoreline Inn, second only to labor, this upgrade will save the motel countless dollars in operational expenses.

The Solarponics designed system is 49.2 kW DC in size consisting of 164 LG solar panels. The system will help cut the cost of heating, light, and power, which makes a big difference in the hospitality category where buildings consume an average of 50% more energy than similar sized residential units. Shoreline Inn was attracted to the investment for cost savings, in addition to environmental benefits.

“Primary benefits to Shoreline Inn is the cost of operating will go down. Also over time energy prices only seem to go up so in the long run, our savings will only increase,” says The Shoreline operations director, Marshall Sumrall.

The Shoreline Inn system is estimated to reduce Cayucos’ carbon dioxide emissions by 2,000 tons over the next 30 years, and reduce oil dependence by at least 120 barrels annually, according to conversion formulas provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Solarponics has designed and installed solar energy systems for many commercial buildings over the last 39 years including wineries, restaurants, and other Central Coast businesses, but this particular location was hard for the Solarponics crew to leave.

“I’ll have to come back here about every other weekend, you know, to check up on things. That’s just my level of commitment to my customers,” said Andrew Stewart, Solarponics Commercial Energy Analyst and Shoreline Inn team leader.

Shoreline Inn, located at 1 North Ocean Avenue, is family owned and operated since 1980. It is the only beachfront motel between Monterey and Pismo Beach and is now the only motel on the North Coast to be solar powered.

Solarponics is the Central Coast’s premiere solar energy installer, helping businesses and homeowners save money and achieve energy independence. The longest continuously owned and operated solar company in California, Solarponics is privately owned and locally operated. For more information, visit solarponics.com, or like them on Facebook.
