Mermaid Beach, Queensland, Australia, September 24, 2014 -- Sandusa creator Baz Brown, an Australian civil engineer and avid surfer, dreamed up the concept of a sand-resistant beach towel more than 4 years ago at his home on the Gold Coast, the surfing capital of Australia.

Since then, he has independently navigated his way through the patent process, a crowdfunding campaign, international business, product design and the complexities of manufacturing, to see the Sandusa come to fruition.

“There have been a lot of ups and downs and a lot of lessons learnt – particularly through the whole process of crowdfunding a new product like the Sandusa,” said Mr Brown.

“Crowdfunding is a simple way to raise capital and conduct market research simultaneously – the whole campaign was really a test to see if there was demand for this product in the market.

“Thankfully I raised over $25,000 through crowdfunding site Indiegogo, selling more than 1000 towels to around 250 backers in 25 countries.

“I did have my own share of problems fulfilling the order – taking around 9 months and 3 rejected orders to complete the first production run of the Sandusa to the highest standard.

“These first orders have now been shipped out, and backers all around the world have received their first Sandusas, with a lot of great feedback.

“Its an exciting time as we are getting photos back from happy customers all over the globe. Panama, France, Brazil, Hong Kong and the US to name a few. Its been extremely rewarding and we are now in the process of placing our second order.”
