Every individual finds home as one of the most intimate places. That is why much effort and money is always invested in making home the best place to live in. However, the attitude to its architecture has been changing throughout history. For example, after the war most of the homes in America were designed according to Eichler’s scheme. The mentioned type was created mostly for a woman whose main task was to bring up children. Actually, the Eichler home is a perfect mother-like dwelling with all necessary equipment for house care.

In accordance with Annmarie Adams, the Eichler homes were the most practical place for mothers. Basically, these houses were designed for making mothers’ life easier (Adams, 1995). They were created with a relevant attention to the safety of children. That is why there was a lot of space, which enabled mothers to control children around the clock. The center of the house was a kitchen. It was a place where mothers spent most of the time. The equipment of the kitchen was quite simple and everything was fixed. Male place such as barbecue was however limited since the barbecue was equipped in the kitchen too.

One of the basic features of the Eichler home was the combination of economical materials, neighbor conformity, and prefabricated elements. What is more, the houses were located in the suburbs far from the cities. However, they had good infrastructure and accessibility to all services as well.

The distinguishing feature of the Eicher homes was big windows. They made the house brighter. However, in order to avoid the feeling of living in an aquarium, there were fences around the yard, which hid the house. One may admit that everything in the house was clearly visible and hence easily controlled.

All in all, the Eichler home was a perfect type of house made for bringing up children. Mothers were the main controllers of the homes since everything was designed for making their work easier. That is why the analyzed homes had gained wide popularity among family users during postwar period.
