What is Stem Cell Therapy? Can it be Used to Treat Alzheimer’s Disease?

This press release delivers information about Alzheimer’s Disease and Stem Cell Therapy

Alzheimer’s disease is one of the most common causes of dementia. This disease affects the nerve cells in the brain. It results in memory loss, mood swings and confusion. The exact cause of this disease is not known. There are theories, however, that state there are two proteins that cause the disease: one is “Amyloid Beta” and another is “Tau.” These two proteins are found in the deteriorating areas of the brain.

Scientists have yet to find an exact cause of dementia, but stem cell researchers are working hard on identifying it.

Stem cells have the potential to repair damaged brain cells. For this reason, people who work with stem cell therapy are optimistic about its use as an Alzheimer’s treatment.

There are different types of stem cells based on how they are formed. There are adult stem cells that are present in the individual’s own body, and there are embryonic stem cells that are found in embryos. There are Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs) that are created in the laboratory from ordinary adult cells; they can be reverted back into stem cells.

Stem cells have two important properties. They are able to reproduce independently, and they can produce the different cell types required to create various tissues. Stem cells grow in the brain and have the potential to repair damaged cells, even in the brain. This is promising news for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

In short, there is a lot of promising research about using stem cell treatments to help neurological disorders and abnormalities. They may be useful in treating traumatic brain injury treatment.
