Wedding in a Court is not at all a new concept. It has been practiced from times immemorial. However, this particular wedding ceremony was never really very common. Only the royalty and the wealthy could afford such a wedding. Even then it was very much held off until the last few decades. In the recent past, things have changed forever.

The concept of a wedding in a court has got so popular among young couples. The reason behind it could be many. The first reason is that the dowry system which prevails in the country has rendered the young generation quite poor. Therefore, the groom spends most of his income on the bride's dowry. And the young couples want to get married without spending even a single penny on the wedding.

This is the reason why they go for this marriage option. Through this, they get married without having to spend even a single penny. On the other hand, if they get married in a traditional way like in a church, they would have to spend quite a huge amount to make their wedding a perfect one.

Such weddings are also held off in courts with the help of various rituals. As soon as the marriage contract is signed, the priest presides over the newlyweds and reads out the wedding vows. The bride and the groom then sit opposite each other and take seven steps around the holy fire. The wedding becomes more solemn as the bride and the groom repeat the seven words that start with the marriage ceremony.

After saying the words, they put their right hands together and repeat the words "I now marry", "I now divorce (or remarry) the one" together. The wedding gets complete and the bridegroom stands up. Then he walks toward the bride with the bridegroom's right hand in his. He then says the word "I now take you to be my wife". This process goes on seven times only.

If both of them agree on the terms of the marriage, there is no need for a witness to the marriage. However, if neither of them wants a child, it is preferable that a witness is present. This is so that the court does not get confused and does not become irrelevant. In any case, if the bridegroom gets scared off by the dowry, the bride may not agree to go through with the marriage. Hence the wedding gets canceled and the relationship between the two ends thereon.

The dowry-payment is another important issue that has to be resolved in a court of law. The dowry-payment is made to the bride by the groom and can either be in cash or in-kind such as money, goods, and services. However, the amount should neither be less than the amount which the bride is able to get at her hand or more than the amount that she is eligible to get by any other way.

A court marriage usually happens quickly. There is a lot of excitement and energy all around. Therefore, the bridegroom should also exude the same energy and enthusiasm. A court marriage is an exciting and happy event.

It is important for the bride to look beautiful and elegant during the event. She should dress modestly and should get her hair done neatly and should keep her makeup on so that she looks presentable and not 'under the knife.' In fact, the bride is the one who makes the first move for the wedding and she should make sure that she carries herself with dignity and coolly. She should get her clothes according to the occasion and should get the makeover on her nails and lips according to the theme of the wedding.

The wedding is one big social event for everyone. So it is important that the bridegroom behaves like a gentleman during the entire event and does not display his wild side and tends to get into fights with other people. Such behavior might get his bride into trouble. So it is better than the bridegroom behaves properly during the wedding ceremony.

Besides a lot of other reasons, a court marriage normally takes a longer time as compared to a civil wedding. Also, many issues have to be ironed out before the actual wedding takes place. So the bride will definitely need a lot of time to decide on all the stuff necessary for the wedding and, also to get the agreement between her and the groom wrote. Court weddings are definitely more enjoyable and nicer than the other types. So, if you want to get married in court and you want all the legal issues settled then you should go for a civil wedding.
