The research for postage stamps all around the theme of Johann Sebastian Bach led to this discovery some two years ago.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Firstly it is important to mention, that it is no memorial in the sense we know the well-known Bach memorials in Eisenach, Arnstadt, Köthen and Leipzig, Germany. It is about a memorial like the one at the Paris Opéra in France. It is a work of art, to honor Johann Sebastian Bach, one of the most famous musicians ever. Plus it's important to mention that it goes without saying that Bach scientists do know this memorial forever, but Bach fans all over the world probably do not. It's like with the famous Bach treasure chest, which caused the adaption of the Bach seal all over the world after its find. This treasure chest was displayed publicly in a church for years until they discovered it was a possession of Johann Sebastian Bach. The art work discovered in May 2015 is a whole ensemble of window glass, a breathtaking artistic work to honor an exceptional composer through the time.

As mentioned it is about a whole ensemble of church window pieces, which display the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach. It is located behind the "Altar of the Holy Blood" in the St. Jacob's Church in Rothenburg above the Tauber, a few stairs up behind the entrance and the souvenir shop. World-famous sculptor and wood carver Tilman Riemenschneider created this Lord's Table in the years 1499 until 1509.

The research for postage stamps all around the theme of Johann Sebastian Bach led to this discovery some two years ago. That is to say that the author was looking for real postage stamps, not for pictures of them on the internet. Peter Bach jr. and his wife Renate found a so-called commercial stamp, like they were common in Germany in the middle of the past century: Tiny, little printed pieces of paper, that is to say no postage stamps. Just miniature prints to collect, added in boxes of merchandise like food. At the bottom of one of those little pictures displaying Bach on a church window there was a word added: Rothenburg. A request to the Church Society St. Jacob's was answered very cordially and instantly: Bach had never been in Rothenburg, however there is a window that displays Bach at the organ. Again a warm thank you to the superintendent "on that channel". It is very interesting, that it was just about one single glass window, that is to say one section in the middle. In May 2015 the trip of American friends Joan and Carolyn to Germany was a good opportunity to take brilliant photos of that memorial for the first time. Not later but after all possible perspectives had been photographed, the author and photographer Peter Bach jr. had doubts, whether this "gentleman at the organ" was Bach indeed. That question in mind Bach checked on the other glass window pieces around and was impressed, when he "discovered" the section with the Bach seal. Just to "discover" even more window sections related to the composer, all related to the stations of life of the exceptional composer. The author of this article is by the way the writer of a biography about Bach for children and a coloring book about the composer.
