Formerly called Hotmail or Windows Live Hotmail is one of the most trusted and worldwide popular free online email service provided by Microsoft. Hotmail was founded in the year of 1996 as Hotmail, stylized as HoTMaiL by Sabeer Bhatia and Jack Smith in Mountain View. Hotmail is a webmail service and users also can access Hotmail from a web browser anytime and anywhere in the world. It was acquired by Microsoft in the year of 1997 for an estimated of $400 million and launched as MSN Hotmail. The service was renamed to Outlook.com in the year of 2013.

Outlook.com is now a free web-based email service run by Microsoft, one of the most trusted and first webmail services in the world. Till the year 2011, Hotmail had more than 360 million users per month. But in the year of 2013, Hotmail was replaced with Outlook.com which features Microsoft’s metro design language. Microsoft revamped Hotmail and renamed the service as Outlook.com for giving a new push in the world. In the time Hotmail first launched, the free accounts offered features such as spam filters and enhanced virus scanning as well as storage up to 250 MB only. But in the time Microsoft email service, Hotmail users were also provided with a schedule calendar and the capacity to save contact lists in an address book.

At present time, the Outlook.com service provides virtually unlimited storage for free, connections to Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Google and LinkedIn, mobile access, built-in search and spam filtering. One can also use Outlook to send and receive Outlook.com email. Microsoft has started giving this facility after it has changed or replaced in Outlook.com. It was first introduced on July, 2012 when it was beta version available to the people. In accordance with Microsoft the upgrade was deployed on April, 2013, the user kept their existing hotmail accounts and received the option of having Outlook.com email address.
