The study revealed that the dancers in the group had stronger legs and far more agility than most other people of the same age who take part in other forms of exercise, like swimming, walking, golfing etc. Another study conducted by the Journal of Aging and Physical Activity has indicated that tango can help improve the balance in elderly people. That’s because dancing is a great exercise tool for improving strength and muscle tone, gaining coordination, and increasing flexibility.

Meanwhile, an article published by The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition suggested that weekly dance activity can boost physical performance and increase energy levels in adults.Furthermore, a study conducted by Journal of Applied Gerontology found that participating in partner dances with musical accompaniments can help relieve stress and anxiety.

As it turns out, grooving to the beat also carries a host of heart health benefits. A study in Italy demonstrated that people who have had a heart attack have a better chance of staying fit with a regular waltzing rather than walking or treadmill exercises. Some medical experts even believe that patients of chronic depression can benefit from dance exercise. One study showed that chronically depressed individuals who participated in an upbeat group dance exhibitedfewer signs of depression and a renewed vigour and vitality.

When Reebok surveyed 15,000 women across 25 different countries, they found that more than half felt exercise was a chore. Almost two-thirds of the women said they would work out more often if it was fun. Perhaps, that’s why dancing is the hottest fitness trend.
