Oceanside, October 2015 - If you live in San Diego, California and you love Mexican culture then you are familiar with Mexican Day of the dead or Dia de los Muertos event and it celebration in Oceanside Mission – King of all Missions. There is no exception this year too. Old Mission proudly presents Dia De los Muertos 2015 event to all San Diego citizens and visitors. Event will held at October 25th – Sunday 10 am till 5pm. Parking fee is $5 per vehicle.
Few words about holiday
Day of the Dead is Mexican festive holiday that is held in late October or early days of November. It is celebrated in US too, especially in areas with Spanish population. During this religious holiday many families visit graves of loved ones preparing ofrendas, food like pan de muerto, creating skeletons (that are not scary ones) and celebrating life.
“We organize Day of the Dead event for several years with great success” – said Maureen Sullivan marketing director at Old Mission San Luis Rey. “At that day more than 3 thousand visitors from all parts of California visit us and enjoy amazing day here at 4050 Mission Avenue. List of vendors and exhibitors grows every year”, continued Maureen. Every year visitors can take a part at Catrina Contest. It is open for women of all ages. Judges will decide who the fairest Catrina is by: overall look, originality, creativity and authenticity. Also, there is car show – please register since pre-registration is required if you want to show altar in trunk of your favorite vehicle.
First association to Dia de los Muertos are Altars. If you want to be part of the team – become a volunteer and attend altar workshops. Our sponsors will donate marigolds that are used for altar creations. Volunteer for can be also found at website.
