Chemical plant equipments and installations are critically required to be corrosion and abrasion resistant. Certain technologies have been used to make them corrosion resistant. The main technique has been using corrosion resistant lining material to cover surfaces in contact with the corrosive fluids. Some of these materials include;

Fluoropolymers lining
Fluoropolymers lining is a combination of resin and fluoropolymer to form a tough material able to resist chemical action and physical abrasion. The material is able to offer tensile strength of up to 5000 psi and an abrasion resistance of greater than 15 mg. The material also resists galling, electrical resistant, sticking and wetting resistant. It has applications in compound vessels manufacturing due to these unique characteristics.

Halar Lining and Coating
The Halar, ECTFE material is described as a co polymer consisting of ethylene combined with chlorotrifluoroethylene and exhibits semi crystalline features. Halar coating is produced in different grades which are suitable for various purposes mainly in coating of chemical tanks and machines susceptible to chemical corrosion. Apart from corrosion resistance, Halar lining has good permeation resistance, flame resistance, excellent surface characteristics and purity.

PVDF and ETFE Lining
The Polyvinylidene fluoride material (PVDF) is a thermoplastic polymer that is non reactive and able to offer good protection to material against chemical action. It provides a thick film barrier that has low weight, low thermal conduction, good wear resistance and abrasion resistance. It remains inert in the contact of most chemicals and even heat compared to other fluoropolymers.

The ETFE lining is fluorine based plastic developed to offer extreme corrosion resistance over a broad range of temperatures. It is referred to as “ethylene tetrafluoroethylene”. It also provides good chemical resistance,energy and radiation resistance, self-cleaning properties (nonstick) and is recyclable. In some cases it has been used as an excellent roofing film.

PP Lining
This refers to polypropylene lining material. It offers very good non stick properties and has wide usage in chutes,hoppers, and tank as well as hopper linings. It also provides great protection against acids and alkalis resists impact, fires and remains strong and rigid.

Halar Coated Tank
Halar Coated Tanks are special tanks where the ECTFE coating offers extreme surface smoothness, eliminatingthe risk of chemical build up and corrosion. In chemical manufacturing companies , the ducting systems , vessel pipes coatings are done with this material to ensure corrosion never occurs on the inside of pipes , eliminating the need for frequent replacements and maintenance.

The Halar material also acts as an excellent centrifuge machine coating to protect the equipment against action of abrasion, acids, alkalis and organic solvents. It acts as a great alternative to the expensive glass, hastalloy or titanium lining materials.

Lined Nutsche Filter
These are stainless steel pressure filtration systems used for chemical processing for corrosive fluids. They are also used in solid and liquid separation processes. To achieve corrosion resistance and address safety concerns, “Advanced Expertise Technology Pvt. Limited” developed the lined Nutsche filters, which have offered better protection and safety.
