California (2021 November 17) - The state of California shows some improvement over the rate of workers' compensation claims due to the pandemic. In early 2020, almost 10% of employees filed for benefits, while as of 2021, the average is around 2%.

At the beginning of the pandemic, according to the Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau, one in 10 employees who had covid filed a claim. In the latter half of 2020, this reduced to one in 20.

Though covid cases jumped in the winter of 2020 to 2021, the average number of workers' compensation claims was only one in 30. Ever since March of 2021, however, the average number dropped down to one in 50 employees.

Employees filed over 158,000 claims since the beginning of the pandemic, according to reports. Most of these were individuals employed by a company, though more than 68,000 were self-employed. A third of all claims that had nothing to do with covid came from these self-employed people as well, however.

In a typical year in California, the state reports that there are less than 500 death claims. Due to covid, however, this number increased dramatically. In 2020, there were close to 900 death benefit claims at 858. As of this year, there are only 198, however. This number shows a sign of improvement of the pandemic.

Individuals who filed the most covid-related claims worked in the healthcare or public administration industries. These were the people who were on the frontlines at the beginning of the pandemic. They likely had the most interaction with those infected with the illness at the start. Some of these individuals, to receive their benefits, probably worked with a work injury attorney Anaheim-based.

Though covid-related workers' compensation claims are on the decline, there is still a need for these types of benefits.
