Born on August 18, 1984, the original name of Gulzar is Sampooran Singh Kalra. Gulzar was born in Jhelum district of British India. He started his career as lyricist from film Bandini in year 1963.

Gulzar has also directed many films and the first of this was Mere Apne, staring Vinod Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha. He has also directed films like Parichay and Koshish.

Gulzar married actress Rakhee but later they separated, not divorced.
