Young Endeavor’s Unforgettable Journey: Australian Youth’s Ultimate Gap Year programs

Posted November 1, 2023 by Youngendeavour

Young Endeavor, Australia’s premier gap year program, invites Australia’s youth to embark on a life-altering ocean expedition.

This unique and life-changing experience allows young Australians aged 16-23 to embark on an ocean sailing adventure with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). This incredible journey not only promotes personal growth and development, but also provides participants with the opportunity to receive the Duke of Edinburgh Award at the end of the journey.

Young Australians who are both physically and mentally fit and proficient swimmers (at least 50 meters in the open ocean) can apply for this amazing opportunity. Expedition registration begins in February and March and continues in August and September. This is an opportunity for adventurous young people to embark on a gap year unlike any other.

Young Endeavor isn’t your average gap year program. Instead, it’s an adventure that encourages young Australians to break out of their comfort zone and unlock their true potential. It’s built on the values of teamwork, leadership and personal growth, giving participants a wealth of life skills that will be invaluable as they move into adulthood.

Young Endeavor takes place on board a stunning tall ship operated by Australia’s Royal Navy. You’ll be part of a committed crew and work together on the high seas to learn the ins and outs of sailing, leadership and self-sufficiency. The expedition provides young people with hands-on experience of ship operations, from sailing to steering, as well as developing communication, navigation and teamwork skills.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award is a prestigious accolade recognized around the world. It is awarded to young Australians who complete the requirements of the program, which includes physical and voluntary service, and an adventurous journey. The award recognizes a participant’s dedication and commitment, as well as the life skills they learn on the journey.

Young Endeavor participants must meet the following requirements to be eligible for the program:

• Age: 16-23 years
• Physical and mental fitness: must be able to swim in the open ocean at least 50 meters
• Safety and well-being: must be safe during the expedition
• Registration opens twice a year: the first registration period is in February and March and the second opportunity is in August and September
