Millions of pilgrims, sadhus & sanyasis (monks & sages), musicians, artisans and all kinds of craftsmen gather on the pious banks of holy river Kshipra to take a dip in its divine water and move a step ahead in their journey to attain Moksha/Nirvana.
It is believed that a drop of the nectar of immortality fell here (along with three other places) during the heroic fight between the gods and the demons when the universe was created. On astrologically determined days, millions of holy men and pilgrims take bath in the holy river Kshipra to wash away karmic impurities and to set their soul free. It is by far the largest gathering for a month long of pilgrims in the world with 50 million people embarking on the once in a lifetime spiritual journey, chanting the gods above, on the magical banks of river Kshipra.
This Simhastha Kumbha Mela is held in central India – on the holy lands of Ujjain, city of Lord Mahakaleshwar (Lord Shiva), in the midst of mystical Sadhus (Monks), the pilgrims who stream from all over the India and abroad to pray and emerge purified and renewed after the famous shahi snan (Holy dip). Above all, the Kumbha – Simhastha 2016 is a celebration of the unity and faith underlying the great diversity of spiritual and religious paths that run through India from ancient times till the present moment.
The Simhastha Kumbha Mela 2016 is a symbol for the search of the personal soul for freedom, which ends when it knows itself, without any doubt, as one with the original soul of all beings. Where the three constituents of the human form (body, mind and soul) meet in the Supreme Consciousness of this one being, it’s then when one experiences supreme peace or pure bliss.
