Dr. Yasmin Carina Ryan celebrates her tenth year of working as a board certified physician.

Dr. Yasmin Carina Ryan is proud to announce that 2013 marks her tenth year of practicing as a board-certified physician. She earned her MD in 2000, and completed a residency through Columbia University’s St. Luke’s Roosevelt Program in 2003.

“The past ten years have been an incredible learning experience,” said Dr. Yasmin Carina Ryan, regarding the first decade of her medical career. “I’ve had the opportunity to work in a number of different areas and to really get to know the types of work that are most satisfying to me.”

In the first year following the receipt of her board certification, Yasmin Carina Ryan worked in a private practice, specializing in internal medicine. In 2006, however, Yasmin Carina Ryan was offered the opportunity to move to West Virginia and take up a position on an acute medical and surgical floor at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center.

“Inpatient hospital work is definitely what I find most fulfilling,” commented Dr. Yasmin Carina Ryan. “I love getting the chance to work with fellow doctors from a variety of specialties. I was drawn to internal medicine for that reason: unlike, say, a cardiologist, I don’t work with just one organ. I work with whole systems. In a hospital environment, I’m able to work with doctors who are looking at different systems, or look at them in different ways.”

Dr. Yasmin Carina Ryan reports that patient care is the area in which she has most been able to learn and grow over the past decade. “Unfortunately, patient care tends to be overlooked, both in medical training and in the medical field as a whole,” remarked Dr. Yasmin Carina Ryan. “Meanwhile, patient care is one of the most important aspects of obtaining a positive outcome. Over the past ten years, I’ve become very invested in learning how to do patient care better, from communicating with the patient to orchestrating with the rest of the hospital staff to ensure that a patient’s experience goes as smoothly as possible.”

Dr. Yasmin Carina Ryan looks forward to another successful decade of medical practice, and hopes to continue learning throughout her career.
