This striking and unusual Karambit is a huge piece of edged art. With a 9 inch long
blade, and a full length of over 14 inches. The knife is double edged, double
hollow ground. Of special importance is the concave hollow ground edge,
something that is very rare in the knife world, both contemporary and in the past,
because of the great difficulty in execution. The top straight edge has three inches
of my Vampire rip teeth serrations, and the choils are deeply defined. The entire
blade is file worked, the tang is fully tapered for balance, and the knife tang has a
rear finger ring, polished inside and out, with a persuader talon at the butt.
Damascus blade patterns within are intricate and detailed. Fixed and folding
knives with curved blades used for close quarter combat. Karambits have evolved
into one of the ultimate self-defense weapons. KnifeCenter carries these combat
knives in neck knife, shoulder carry, and belt carry varieties.
The karambit is held with the blade pointing downward from the bottom of the
fist, usually curving forwards however occasionally backwards. While it is
primarily used in a slashing or hooking motion, karambit with a finger ring are also
used in a punching motion hitting the opponent with the finger ring. Some
kerambit are designed to be used in a hammering motion. This flexibility of
striking methods is what makes it so useful in self-defense situations. The finger
guard makes it difficult to disarm and allows the knife to be maneuvered in the
fingers without losing one's grip.
The short Filipino karambit has found some favor in the West because such
proponents allege the biomechanics of the weapon allow for more powerful
cutting strokes and painful "ripping" wounds, and because its usability is
hypothesized as more intuitive, though there continues to be debate about this
matter.
