During a career that has spanned more than thirty years, Winson Tang MD has taken responsibility for a number of teams, encountering a range of challenges along the way.

Winson Tang MD is a clinical and medical researcher who has worked his way up since starting his career in the 1980s, to the point where he is now the Vice President of Clinical Research at Sangamo Biosciences, where he is responsible for all of the company’s clinical research programs in areas such as HIV cell therapy and CAR T-cells for glioblastoma. He developed the leadership skills he needs to guide these programs through his extensive work with other companies, including Amgen, Isis Pharmaceuticals and Tularik, throughout the USA and Europe.

Upon first being placed in a position to manage a project team, Dr. Tang quickly learned about the importance of creating a common goal that could be used to unite each member of his team and offer the collective something to strive towards. Said goals usually take the form of the results desired from a research project and can be used as the basis for assigning roles and scheduling work to ensure the team stays on track at all times.

Winson Tang MD has also developed his communication skills, which have been improved further by the fact that he regularly presents his research to his peers, often as part of his role as a member of the American Society of Nephrology. Tang recognizes the importance of communication within project teams on a variety of levels. Not only can it be used to create bonds between team members, making them happier and more productive in the process, but communication is also crucial for making the needs of the project known and also highlighting any issues that he, or his team members, have identified.

Finally, Winson Tang MD recognizes that without authority and a stellar knowledge of his field, he would be unable to direct teams that contain peers who often have just as many talents as he does. This is why he works diligently to improve his knowledge base at every opportunity, while also sharing the benefits of his years of experience in the medical industry with the people who work on his teams. In doing so, he gains respect and also ensures his teams develop over time.
