Winson Tang Leads Sangamo Bioscience’s Clinical Development Programs

Winson Tang is the Vice President of Clinical Research at Sangamo Bioscience, Inc. He leads a team of researchers in the company’s clinical development programs.

 
Since 2010, Winson Tang has led a team of researchers at Sangamo Bioscience, Inc. in Richmond, California. Sangamo is a clinical stage biopharmaceutical company that is focused on the research, development, and commercialization of engineered zinc finger DNA-binding proteins. These proteins are used to target various monogenic and infectious diseases. Winson Tang, as the Vice President of Clinical Research, has spent the last six years focusing on the clinical development programs for the company. During his time at Sangamo, Tang has been responsible for the clinical development programs of CAR-T-cells for glioblastoma, HIV Cell therapy, beta-Thalassemia, MPS I and II and diabetic neuropathy.

Winson Tang is an experienced physician, scientist, and clinical researcher. He has been working in the medical industry for more than three decades and has held various management positions with a number of companies throughout the United States and Europe. Throughout his career, he has published more than thirty articles in academic journals and made more than thirty academic presentations at national meetings throughout the United States. He is a member of several professional societies including the American College of Physicians, American and International Society of Nephrology, and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Winson Tang was born in Hong Kong in 1956. He immigrated to the United States with his family in 1963, when he was just seven years old. He spent his childhood in Garden City, New York, attending Garden City High School, before moving to Massachusetts to attend Tufts University. He studied Chemistry and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1978 with a combined 4-year Bachelors and Masters degree in Chemistry. After graduation, Tang enrolled at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine to attain his Medical Doctor degree. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Southern California Medical Center and was selected as one of the Chief Medical Resident in 1986. After completing his residency, he completed fellowships in Immunology at The Scripps Research Institute, and Nephrology/Hypertension at the University of California, San Diego Medical Center.

When he is not busy conducting clinical research, Winson Tang volunteers his time for Beat AIDS Project Zimbabwe. He works with the nonprofit to provide care to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe patients that have been infected with HIV. He is also an avid tennis player and former varsity letterman for Tufts University’s lacrosse team.
