Windsor, ON – August 19th/2024– Windsor is set to welcome one of its most celebrated comedic talents, Dave Merheje, as he returns to headline the Brewing for Comedy Festival II Grand Finale. This special event, taking place at the Chrysler Theatre on Sept 13th will not only be a night of top-tier comedy but also a crucial fundraiser for two of Windsor’s most beloved cultural institutions—Craft Heads Brewing company and Phog Lounge.
Merheje, a Windsor native, has gained international acclaim for his fearless and aggressive comedic style, earning accolades including a Juno Award for Comedy Album of the Year and a starring role in Hulu’s hit series Ramy. His performance at the festival underscores his commitment to supporting the vibrant community that helped shape his career.
The Brewing for Comedy Festival has quickly become a staple in Windsor’s entertainment calendar, celebrating its second year with a stellar lineup of comedians from across North America. The festival is organised by the Windsor Comedy Club, located inside Craft Heads Brewing Company, which has been a cornerstone of Windsor’s comedy scene since 2015.
This year’s grand finale is not just about bringing laughter to the city but also about preserving the venues that make such events possible. Craft Heads Brewery and Phog Lounge have long been cultural hubs in downtown Windsor, offering spaces where artists, musicians, comedians, and the broader community can connect and thrive.
Phog Lounge, which opened its doors in 2004, quickly became a central figure in Windsor’s arts community, winning the CBC Radio 3 Searchlight Contest for Best Live Music Venue in Canada in 2009. Similarly, Craft Heads Brewery has become known for its adventurous beers and welcoming taproom, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike.
"Both Craft Heads and Phog Lounge are vital to Windsor’s cultural fabric," said Paul Montanier, Co-Founder and Sr. Producer of the Brewing for Comedy Festival. "This festival is about more than just great comedy; it’s about ensuring these venues continue to support and inspire our community for years to come."
The Brewing for Comedy Festival II Grand Finale is sponsored by the City of Windsor, Pinnacle Plus Realty Ltd., and the St. Clair Alumni Association, with additional support from others
