When its first occupants were the Salish people, the history of Victoria dates back to the early 1700's. It then later became a city in 1862 due to the very fact that Victoria was the principal port for the British Columbia gold sector and today it serves as its Capital City.

It has also hosted many sports events like the Grand Prix, Ice skating Championships as well as the 2007 Commonwealth games were hosted here. Victoria is a perfect holiday destination any time of the year as it gets very little snow during winter. In comparison to other Canadian Cities of Vancouver and Toronto Victoria has an extremely mild climate with hot summers, warm springs and winters that are bearable.

One of the primary attractions in Victoria is the Inner Harbour that is surrounded by historic government buildings, seafood restaurants, quaint pubs and the some quite pricey yachts. Boat tours around the Strait of Juan De Fuca are a terrific method to see a few of Victoria's stunning wilderness that is natural. If you prefer buildings that is old you will not need to miss seeing.


Victoria boasts a number of the loveliest Parks and public gardens in Canada due to the mild climate so should you have some time in your hands take a leisurely stroll through Beacon Hill Park and Butchart Gardens which has some of the prettiest and unusual plants and flowers in the world. Its layout is pristine, peaceful and colourful - perfect setting for a picnic or to collect your thoughts. To get a family day out head to Victoria West Shore shore, it's 3km of fine coastline for one to paddle in, go fishing, waterskiing or snorkelling on. Found within precisely the same district close and can also be a golfing and spa resort by you will locate some country style pubs, the Fisguard Lighthouse and Fort Rod Hill.


Getting To Victoria


British Columbia is served by Victoria International Airport found 22km north of the city. Flights are available to Victoria from London with one or two changes at Calgary, Toronto or Seattle from many major tour operators. Flying time from the United Kingdom to Victoria is around 11 hours.
