Rosacea and Acne diet impact discussed by West London dermatologist

A recent study involved researchers identifying the association between rosacea, acne, and diet. Rosacea and acne are common problems seen by West London dermatologists today. They are common skin conditions that require the right diet and treatment. Assessing the influence of the diet on dermatoses of the face has been challenging, due to the lack of diet patterns and disease-specific dietary protocols.

Observational controlled trials are needed to determine the relationship between some food items and the risk of disease development. Dietary modifications for rosacea are very limited when compared to acne. Researchers carried out a cross-sectional and controlled study to investigate the eating patterns of patients with rosacea and acne to identify the relationship between diet and these skin conditions.

The study was carried out over nine months and involved two groups. The first group comprised rosacea patients and the other were acne patients, along with controlled groups in both. Participants were over the age of twelve and included healthy individuals who had never had a facial dermatosis history, matched by age, sex, and BMI.

Dietary patterns of the participants were conducted over four weeks with self-documentation and trigger foods. The team of researchers developed a rosacea and acne nutritional score based on dietary habits to predict the risk of these skin conditions.

Dr Arjuna Imbuldeniya, the Founder and Director at The West London Clinic, said “Two hundred and ninety-six participants took place in the study. It was found that eighty-one percent of acne patients and seventy-one percent of rosacea patients found that diet played a role in the severity of the disease. Acne triggers included chocolate, milk, dairy products, alcohol, and fried foods, while rosacea patients reported alcohol, fried foods, coffee, milk, chocolate, and spices were their main triggers, especially wine.”

The team of expert dermatologists at The West London Clinic is paying close attention to the new dietary findings, ensuring that they can provide their patients with the finest level of care to treat their skin conditions with confidence. With diet playing such a vital role in the management of acne and rosacea, the team is working with patients to identify their trigger foods to help them manage their condition with confidence.
