The lodge is thrilled to offer Black Belt deer hunting, named after the habitat with its rich, dark, fertile soil. Lying above the Coastal Plain and below the Appalachian foothills, this fertile habitat produces the best quality whitetails, making Black Belt deer hunting an unsurpassed outing for hunters from all over the world who like to shoot larger buck. This area produces great weights on animals as well as above average antler characteristics in whitetail deer, ideal for trophy seeking hunters.

At Westervelt Lodge, hunters are kindly asked to harvest mature buck older than 42 months, with more than 8 points and an inside spread of greater than 16 inches. Additional harvests should be larger. To assist with the deer management program, hunters may harvest one doe per day.
Westervelt Lodge conveniently offers the private shooting range facility to booked in guests. Hunters use it to fine-tune their riflescopes, or to pattern a turkey gun, or just for warming up before the hunt starts. This rifle and clay range is conveniently situated a few steps from the lodge. Lodge staff members, to ensure that safety procedures are followed, will accompany shooters.
After a successful days hunt in the large 12 000 acre hunting plantation at Westervelt Lodge, guest are treated like royalty at the informal yet elegant accommodation, which is a fine fusion of southern hospitality and rustic charm. The Tombigbee river forms a paramount backdrop for the majestic 10 room main lodge, with its wooden floors and oversized fireplaces, including private bathrooms, king size beds and a daily housekeeping service. Cooking is done in the characteristic southern style with generous portions of tasty food on offer. The more intimate Liar’s Lair Lodge accommodates four, but the occupancy capacity can be stretched to 26 in total.
