Summer can get hot and sticky. When the temperatures inside the home seem little different than those outside, air conditioning becomes an important element for health and comfort. While installing central air is not for those without expertise, installing a room air conditioner can be handled by those willing to read directions and to put forth the effort and time.
Today's units are quiet, efficient, more environmentally-friendly and can be relied upon for many years. Today's AC units also include digital thermostats and remote controls. When considering what you need, fit the cooling capacity (BTUs) with the size of the room. You don't want to waste energy and money by installing a unit with more cooling capacity than required for the space to be cooled.

BTUs refers to British Thermal Units and are the way air conditioners are rated for cooling capacity. The higher the rating for BTUs, the more cool air replaces hot air. Do not try to save money by purchasing an AC unit without the rated capacity to cool the space you wish cooled. Doing so, greatly taxes the AC unit and may mean the AC unit will not last as long as it would if placed in a space for which it was designed.
For Air Conditioner Installation, make sure the AC unit chosen works with your electrical outlets and is properly grounded. Larger units might require the services of an electrician if stronger amperages are required.

When the Air Conditioner Installation uses an existing window, make sure you have proper access to both the outside and electrical outlets inside without bushes or plants obstructing the unit. Whether the AC unit uses a window or not, some opening is required that allows for vents to be placed toward the outside. Such placements allows for the exchange of hot and cold air. Drainage is also necessary due to condensation. Read and follow all directions for Air Conditioning Installation.
Seal openings around a window AC unit using insulation and the slide out panels that come with the AC unit. Installing an AC unit correctly, will help ensure many years of good service.
