Darjeeling is known for producing the best tea in the world, with unique flavors and aromas. This region is close to the Himalayas. The peaceful atmosphere of the Himalayas will change your feelings. There are currently 87 tea gardens open in Darjeeling. These settlements are spread over an area of about 19,000 hectares and employ about 52,000 daily workers. During the harvest season from March to November, an additional 15,000 pluckers are employed in the plantation. So don't worry you won't get lost. Just don’t disturb them because the skillful work they do produces your delicious cup of tea.
Assam is the next stop of our tea garden adventure. The region of Assam is one of the largest producers of tea in the world. Tea gardens collectively produce more than 1.5 million pounds of tea each year. In fact, Assam and South China are the only places where there are indigenous tea plants. The land of tea gardens in Assam is so fertile that it has its own time zone. "Tea garden time" is 1 hour ahead of Indian standard time. This system was introduced to make the best use of early sunrise. In Assam, you will also see animals such as the hulok gibbon, the red-headed vulture, and the one-horned rhinoceros. In Assam, tea is grown at an altitude of only 45-60 meters above sea level. This is very low compared to other regions like Darjeeling, where tea is grown between 600 and 2000 meters above sea level.
