Accel Research Sites is recruiting for an Alzheimer’s prevention trial. Patients ages 55-80 with no symptoms are eligible.

TAMPA, Fla. (May 13, 2022) — When many people think of Alzheimer’s Disease, they think of the later stage cognitive decline. But changes to the brain can actually start 10 to 20 years before symptoms appear.

A clinical trial in Tampa is aiming to prevent or slow those symptoms before a patient is even diagnosed. The trial is testing an investigational medicine that may prevent or slow Alzheimer’s Disease in patients who currently do not have symptoms. Participants in the trial might also be able to learn if they have a specific biomarker believed to be present in patients with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Accel Research Sites is now recruiting patients 55 to 80 for this important clinical trial.

“People often think clinical trials are for people who are sick,” said Lora Parahovnik, CEO of Accel Research Sites. “But there are many trials for healthy volunteers, and there are also trials like this that aim to prevent diseases. In fact, this trial can even show participants if they are at risk of developing a disease. Trials like this are essential in helping to move medicine forward for current and future patients.”

Both men and women are eligible for the trial. They must have normal memory and thinking and have a reliable study partner who can report if there are any changes in day-to-day life. Participants must live within a 35-mile radius of the testing site, 5411 Beaumont Center Blvd. Suite 760, Tampa, FL 33634. Dr. Deborah Burke is the principal investigator.

Study-related care will be provided at no cost to eligible participants. Insurance is not required, and compensation may be available.
