The US Department of Agriculture says that the answer to the problem of re-vamped school lunch menus is good old fashioned snack.

Due to the lighter amount of foods in school lunch trays nowadays, as per the calorie limits set by the Congress that went into effect in August, many complaints have been lodged in line with the kind of lunches served in schools all over the country.

The new regulations, endorsed by Michelle Obama, as part of her “Let’s Move” campaign, are designed to reduce childhood obesity. But it generated protests and a spoof video created by students claiming that these new lunch regulations are making them hungry.

"It's not surprising that some youngsters will in the middle of the day be hungry," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack told the ABC News, as his response to the controversy. "I remember my two boys when they came back from school they were always hungry, we always had snacks prepared for them," he added.

Vilsack said the Obama Administration is working with school districts to create easy healthy snacks for kids and encouraging parents to pack extra food for their active students to munch on before football practice or band rehearsal.

"We understand that change is difficult," said Vilsack. "Some folks love it, some folks have had questions about it, but that's to be expected when you're dealing with 32 million children and you're dealing with over a hundred thousand school districts," he explained.

With the new regulations, school cafeterias are required to limit their servings of protein and carbohydrates and double their servings of fruits and vegetables. To those who are complaining, this is clearly no fun snack ideas. Perhaps it is time for parents to think about healthy afterschool snacks. This is where the help of 110Athletics will be needed by concerned parents.
