Madrid, Spain, June 11, 2013 - The new system will improve efficiency and minimise the environmental impacts of productive processes.

Technology patented by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) is already being used at a pilot plant of the company International Flavors & Fragrances in Benicarló (Castellón). This firm produces scents and flavours for use in consumer products. The new facilities have a system thatimproves the efficiency and minimises the environmental impact of productive processes.

The new technology is focused on innovating in productive processes in order to make them more efficient and minimise their environmental impact. These facilities consist of laboratories and a pilot plant to incorporate new products and processes at industrial level.

The technology has been developed by Avelino Corma, a CSIC research professor who works at the Institute for Chemical Technology, a joint centre between the CSIC and the Technical University of Valencia.

Corma says that this technology offers many advantages. “We have developed a catalyst by means of which a chemical process that once involved three stages and generated a lot of sub-products without any economic value can now take place in just one stage without generating any sub-products. This has enabled us to reduce production costs and produce these fine chemical products in a cleaner way”.
