Asian shares stepped back on Friday and major currencies mostly stuck to late U.S. levels as investors caught their breath, after Switzerland's unexpected move to abandon its currency cap jolted markets already roiled by plunging commodities prices.

The Sensex is down 18.94 points at 28056.61 and the Nifty is up 9.90 points at 8504.05. About 287 shares have advanced, 182 shares declined, and 235 shares are unchanged.

LIQUIDITY
The Reserve Bank of India said on Thursday it accepted all 53 bids for 201.64 billion rupees ($3.26 billion) at its one-day repo auction, through which it injects liquidity into the banking system.
