Carbonation is the formation of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) by a chemical reaction in the concrete, mainly exposed to an aggressive environment. If the temperature falls below 5 °C, some special measures should be taken to prevent a decrease in the rate of hydration and to prevent freezing of fresh concrete.
