Track 1: Clinical Dermatology
Clinical Dermatology is the branch of medical science that manages the complete range of diseases and conditions of the skin, hair and nails. Skin helps in protection against ultraviolet radiation, harmful chemicals and toxins and various infections as well as maintains shelter for blood vessels and sweat glands that regulate temperature. Yet the importance of skin well-being is frequently overlooked in view of the constant, non-hazardous nature of most skin ailments. A majority of the ladies experience discomfort and uneasiness related with skin issues which influence them motivations to search for restorative care. Healthy hair and healthy nails are also considered among our desired features.
Track 2: Pediatric Dermatology
Pediatric dermatologists are concerned with skin disorders including birthmarks, skin infections, dermatitis, etc. Pediatric Dermatology, a subspecialty of dermatology, specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of skin conditions in infants, children and adolescents. Abnormal skin irritations and conditions can emotionally affect children. Atopic Eczema, also called Dermatitis, is a skin condition that is usually found in small children. Atopic Dermatitis includes a range of skin conditions with symptoms including red, itchy, oozing and scaling skin. Atopic Eczema in babies also known as Infantile Dermatitis is usually found on the face and scalp causing the skin to itch and ooze.
Track 3: Dermatological Diseases
Dermatology is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects that deals with the hair, nails, skin and their diseases. The responsibility of a dermatologist is to treat diseases and some cosmetic problems of the skin. One of the most common long-term skin conditions is acne which is characterized by areas of blackheads, whiteheads, pimples, greasy skin and possibly scarring. Other diseases include skin cancer & malignancy of epithelial cells, contact dermatitis, Kawasaki syndrome, inflammation, viral skin diseases, scars & rashes.
Track 4: Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a noncontagious, chronic skin condition which results from excessively rapid proliferation of skin cells forming plaques of thickened, scaling skin. The most commonly affected areas include elbows, knees, and scalp. Though psoriasis is considered an incurable, long-term inflammatory skin condition, it is not unusual for psoriasis to spontaneously clear for years and stay in remission. The symptoms of psoriasis worsen during winter.
Track 5: Hyperpigmentation and Vitiligo
Increased melanin causes hyperpigmentation which darkens off an area of skin or nails. It is caused by sun damage including those related to acne vulgaris. People with darker skin tones are more prone to hyperpigmentation especially with excess sun exposure. Treatment of hyperpigmentation caused by melanin overproduction includes the use of topical depigmenting agents. On the other hand, vitiligo is characterized by patches of the skin losing their pigment and become white usually having sharp margins. The patches most often begin on areas of skin that are exposed to the sun and are more noticeable in people with dark skin.
Track 6: Leprosy
Leprosy which is also known as Hansen’s disease is a long-term infection by the bacteria Mycobacterium leprae. Infections usually occur without any symptoms in the early stages. Leprosy is a contagious disease spreading through coughs or contact with fluid from the nose of an infected person. Detection of leprosy is done by acid-fast bacilli in a skin biopsy or by detecting the DNA which is curable with a treatment known as multidrug therapy. Multidrug therapy (MDT) is the most effective treatment and after the first monthly dose there is no chance of infection.
Track 7: Skin Cancer
Ultraviolet radiation causes sunburns which increase the risk of skin cancer like melanoma, basal cell carcinoma & squamous cell carcinoma. Nonmelanoma skin cancer is characterized by a firm red nodule that bleeds or develops a crust on the nose, forehead, ears, lower lip, hands, and other sun-exposed areas of the body. Even people with dark complexions get affected by skin cancer. Melanomas might also occur inside the mouth, intestines and even in the eye. The primary cause of melanoma is ultraviolet light exposure with low levels of skin pigment.
Track 8: Mohs Surgery
Mohs surgery is a microscopically controlled surgery which is considered the most effective technique for treating skin cancer. The procedure is done in stages, where after each removal of tissue it is examined for cancer cells while the patient waits. This allows the removal of all cancerous cells for the highest cure rate while sparing healthy tissue and leaving the smallest possible scar. It is generally done on a single visit and it is very efficient. It has a cure rate of 99% for a skin cancer that has not been treated before and upto 94% for a skin cancer that has recurred after previous treatment.
Track 9: Dermatological Techniques
A wide variety of dermatological techniques are employed to diagnose and treat contaminations or dermatologic sicknesses. Some typical dermatologic frameworks used to test for sicknesses are biopsies, including punch, shave and extraction biopsy.
Track 10: Alopecia and Scalp Problems
Hair fall may be due to alopecia which refers to a loss of hair from head or other parts of body. The causes may vary from genetics and hormonal imbalance to physical or psychological stress. Certain medications, chemotherapy, HIV/AIDS, hypothyroidism and iron deficiency may also lead to hair fall. Due to the same hormonal imbalance, seborrheic dermatitis may develop which is a condition where excessive amount of sebum builds up on the scalp creating dandruff and itchy scalp leading to more hair fall. Similar symptoms are also shown by dry scalp but the cause is different. Dry scalp occurs due to loss of moisture, contact dermatitis or old age.
Track 11: Advances in Trichology and Cosmetology
Trichology is the branch of restorative and corrective investigation and practice worried about the hair and scalp. Cosmetology is the planning and use of perfection medications. It comprises of a couple of branches like hairstyling, sound skin, beautifiers, nail trims/pedicures and electrology. Aesthetic medicine is an inclusive term for specialties that focus on improving cosmetic appearance through the treatment of conditions including scars, skin laxity, wrinkles, moles, liver spots, excess fat, cellulite, unwanted hair, skin discoloration, and spider veins. Aesthetic medicine includes surgical procedures as well as non-surgical procedures.
