There are certain chemicals you just don't want to slather all over your body. Here are just a few of the potentially harmful ingredients that may be found in the cosmetics.

In a nowadays world full of synthetic materials demand for everything natural and organic has increased substantially. And the skin got a special attention, as it’s influenced by all the types of harmful substances every day. And what could be worse than having gross ingredients in the skincare products that one uses? There are certain chemicals you just don't want to slather all over your body. Here are just a few of the potentially harmful ingredients that may be found in the cosmetics.

1. PARABENS. These preservatives are used to prevent bacteria growth in products, but there is evidence that they mess with hormone levels. One study cited a decrease in menstrual cycle length for women with increased levels of parabens in their urine.
2. SULFATES. Those are often used in shampoos and washes to create lather and give a deep clean. They are known to strip skin of moisture and natural oils, which can lead to dryness, redness, and sensitivity.
3. PHTHALATES. These chemicals are found in fragrances, helping them last longer, and in some cosmetics (like nail polish and hair spray), to lend flexibility. They’re readily absorbed by the skin and mimic estrogen in the body, which disrupts hormone levels and cycles. Certain studies have linked them to breast cancer.
4. SYNTHETIC FRAGRANCES. “Perfume” or “fragrance” on a label is a catchall term for any number of ingredients that can legally remain undisclosed by manufacturers. (Often, fragrance contains phthalates and skin-drying alcohols.)

Use the natural skin care products instead. Such as Dr. Botanicals, for example. Dr Botanicals is a London based vegan skincare brand. It is committed to creating natural, organic vegan products that produce real, tangible results – showing the power of botanical and natural active ingredients. They have a strict policy of using essential oils, natural components and plants instead of using animal products like eggs, dairy products, silk, wool, fur etc., what makes their skin care products cruelty free as well.
