Liver of a brain dead patient transported from Nashik to Sahyadri Hospital Deccan via green corridor

• Gives a new lease of life to a 50 years old patient suffering from NASH-(fatty liver) chronic liver cirrhosis, on whom liver transplant was performed at Sahyadri Hospital, Deccan.

 
The liver of a brain dead patient was harvested and transported via green corridor from Nashik to Sahyadri Hospital Deccan earlier today. The green corridor was created from Nashik to Pune. The liver left Nashik at 3.30 pm and reached Sahyadri Hospital, Deccan at around 6.30 pm, in about 3.00 hours (normally it takes 6 hours.)
A 67 year old lady was admitted with intracranial bleeding at Sahyadri Hospital Nashik on 25th June. Since patient did not respond to the treatment, he was declared brain dead on 26th June. Sahyadri Hospital medical team counselled the relatives of brain dead patient for Organ donation, to which they agreed voluntarily.
Since, Sahyadri Hospital Nashik is not an official centre for Organ retrieval, the donor was transferred to an official organ retrieval centre in Nashik. The liver was allocated to Sahyadri Hospital Deccan Gymkhana according to ZTCC rules and regulations.
Sahyadri Hospitals liver team immediately travelled to Nashik and carried out the Organ retrieval procedure in the morning. The harvested liver was transported from Nashik to Pune in less than 3.00 hrs. Via green corridor arranged by Pune and Nashik Traffic Police departments.
This liver transported from Nashik was transplanted in a patient (aged 50) suffering from chronic liver diseases at Sahyadri Hospital, Deccan Gymkhana.
Talking about this, Liver expert at Sahyadri Hospitals Dr. Bipin Vibute said,
“ In a span of just few months, this the second time when a liver has been transported from Nashik to Pune via Green Corridor. On both occasions it helped to give new lease of life to two people suffering from chronic liver diseases.
He further said from its inception Sahyadri's Centre for Organ Transplant has performed 11 successful liver Transplants. The hospital offers affordable cutting edge liver transplant surgery and has 24/7 availability of liver experts."

Dr. Prashantha Rao, Liver Transplant Surgeon of Sahyadri Hospitals said, “The decision by brain dead patient’s family to donate his liver to a needy patient is also worth appreciating. It is very important to note that, through organ donation one man can give a new lease of life to another man. Sahyadri Hospitals is trying its level best to increase awareness about organ donation.”


Dr. Alapini Thopte, Manager operations Sahyadri Hospital Deccan said, “Usually it takes 6.5 hours to travel from Nashik to Pune, thanks to the green corridor created by traffic police this transportation was achieved in just 3.00 hours. We thank Mr. Mr Pravin Munde, DCP Pune traffic for creating this green corridor. Also role of ZTCC coordinator Mrs. Aarti Gokhale was very instrumental in coordinating the entire green corridor.
