The company made the donation as a part of the CSR theme of Zest 2016 – Prayaas, their Annual Rewards and Recognition Night.
The Department of Ophthalmology at Sassoon General Hospital provides tertiary care to the poor and needy patients of Western Maharashtra under National Programme for Control of Blindness, launched by the Government of India in 1976 with the goal of reducing the prevalence of blindness from 1.4% to 0.3% by 2020.
Sears India feels proud to be a part of the compassionate services that Sassoon General Hospital is providing through its Department of Ophthalmology.
On the occasion, Alok Kumar, Managing Director of Sears India said, “It’s a moment of pride for me to make this small contribution to mark our Annual R&R Night with this noble donation. The Nd:YAG LASER Unit is expected to restore useful vision free of cost; of approximately 4000 out of 6000 patients operated for Cataract annually.” Santosh Panicker, Chief People Officer of Sears India and Head of the CSR Committee expressed the commitment of Sears India towards community service and lauded the efforts of the CSR team in furthering their noble objectives.
Dr. Ajay Chandanwale, Dean of Sassoon General Hospital and Dr. Sanjeevani Ambekar, Head of Ophthalmology Department, expressed gratitude towards Sears India for sponsoring this noble cause.
Earlier this year, Sears India had also launched a National Digital Literacy Mission Center at Wagholi village and donated biodegradable sanitation units to the Pune Police Department, as contribution to the ESaksharta Abhiyan and Swachh Bharat Abhiyan respectively.
