Nowadays the internet is most peoples’ main source of information, so it only makes sense that businesses would want to generate a bit of a pre-launch buzz online before launching a major offering. For the launch of their new reality survival show, Alone, the History Channel engaged UK animation studio Untitled Project to create an interactive experience that took audiences into the heart of the Canadian wilderness. The idea was to create an immersive, 360-degree Virtual Reality experience that enabled audiences to feel the gauntlet of emotions one goes through when abandoned in the wild. Untitled Project developed the entire experience from the ground up, expertly animating a 3D Canadian forest from scratch, complete with grizzly bears, wolves, and animal carcasses lying on the forest floor. The project was presented in full stereoscopic 360-degree Virtual Reality and ran on a custom-developed VR app. The experience itself was a huge success with over 1,200 people visiting the experience in its first two days. The real impact, however, came online where the promotional video was shared over 10,000 times in the first 24 hours, attaining a massive 350,000+ views and being featured by major tech blogs and online media outlets.
